Our Leadership

Matthew (Matt) Walsh, CPA
President / CEO

Matt began his role as the President / CEO of UCU in June of 2006. He joined the Credit Union in July of 1997. Between 1997 and 2006 he served as Vice President / Controller, Vice President of Finance, and Senior Vice President of Finance and Technology. Matt is a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining UCU he spent several years working at a regional accounting firm in their Financial Institution Auditing Group. Matt has an Associate of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Maine and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Husson University. Matt currently volunteers his time in leadership with the Boy Scouts of America, and he serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board of the UMaine College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He is also a mentor to a UMaine student organization. Matt has been an active member of a number of organizations including the Maine Credit Union League (MECUL), Tricorp Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, Insurance Trust Board of Directors, Husson University Alumni Board, FAME Adaptive Equipment Loan Fund Board, and various committees of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. Matt resides in the greater Bangor area and works in the Orono office.


Debra (Deb) White-Rideout
Vice President of Operations and Human Resources

Deb began her role as the Vice President of Operations and Human Resources in January of 2006. She joined UCU as Human Resource Manager in August of 2005. Prior to becoming a member of the UCU staff, Deb spent ten years with a national bank in sales and human resources work. Her background also includes three years in management with a large retailer. Deb received her Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Maine. She has been an active member of a number of Maine Credit Union League committees, and she held the positions of Vice President and President with the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions. Deb resides in the greater Bangor area and works in the Orono office.

 


Renee Ouellette, CPA
Vice President of Finance and Technology

Renee began her role as the Vice President of Finance and Technology in July of 2009. Prior to joining UCU, Renee spent more than ten years in various finance roles with several companies. For seven of those years she worked for various Maine-based banks. The remainder of that time was spent in the healthcare and manufacturing industries. Renee is a Certified Public Accountant. She also worked for several years at a regional accounting firm in their Healthcare Auditing Group. Renee received her Associate of Science degree in Business Management from Eastern Maine Technical College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Husson University. She has been a member of various Maine Credit Union League committees. Renee resides in the greater Bangor area and works in the Orono office.

 


April Gleason
Assistant Vice President of Lending

April became the Assistant Vice President of Lending in September of 2009. Since joining UCU in October of 2003, she has held the titles of Loan Processor, Loan Operations Coordinator, and Vice President of Primary Mortgage Corporation (a subsidiary of UCU at the time). Before becoming a member of the UCU staff, April worked in the restaurant industry for seven years. Much of that time was spent in management. She also worked in the financial aid office of a local college for two years. She received her Associate of Science degree in Accounting from Andover College. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Business Administration from Husson University. April has been a Director on the Board of the Maine Association of Mortgage Professionals since 2011. She lives in the greater Portland area and works in the Scarborough office.


Eileen Byram
Assistant Vice President of Risk Management

Eileen became the Assistant Vice President of Risk Management when she joined UCU in October of 2010. Before joining UCU, Eileen spent nearly 20 years in the health care field with the majority of that time in various management and senior leadership roles including Business Manager, Compliance Officer, and Vice President of Business Development. Eileen received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maine and her Master of Science in Business from Husson University. She has been active with various healthcare related committees and as a board member for Rape Response Services and for Parent Child Alliance. She is currently a member of the Financial Managers Society and the Credit Union Executives Society. Eileen resides in the greater Bangor area and works in the Orono office.

 


Jay Fortier
Assistant Vice President of Member Business Services

Jay joined UCU in July of 2009 as a Business Services Officer and became Assistant Vice President of Member Business Services in January of 2012. Previously he spent four years with a local economic development firm as a commercial loan officer and 17 years with a local bank as an underwriter in consumer, residential and commercial loans. Jay received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Maine. He is a Director on the Board of the Orono/Veazie Water District, and he serves as a Trustee and as Chairperson of the Finance Committee for the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN) Board of Trustees. Jay has also been active in the past with the United Way of Eastern Maine, the Orono Land Trust, and the Orono / Old Town Kiwanis. Jay lives in the greater Bangor area and works in the Orono office.

 


Kevin Foley
Assistant Vice President of Branch Management

Kevin became Assistant Vice President of Branch Management in April of 2013. He joined UCU in early 2008 as the Branch Manager of the Brighton Avenue branch in Portland. He later took on the management of the Forest Avenue branch as well. Prior to joining UCU, Kevin worked at HSBC for 12 years as a Senior Branch Manager. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Keene State College. Kevin is on the Athletic Development Council at the University of Southern Maine. He lives in the greater Portland area and works in the Scarborough office.

 

 

 


Amy Irish
Assistant Vice President of Member Development

Amy became Assistant Vice President of Member Development in April of 2013 to oversee all marketing and member development efforts. She joined UCU in September of 2010 as the Marketing Manager. Prior to joining UCU, Amy worked in the marketing industry in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Long Island University and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Maine. Amy is a member of the Statewide Awareness Committee for the Maine Credit Union League and is active with local UMaine Alumni groups and Portland Buy Local. She lives in the greater Portland area and works in the Scarborough office.
