Text Messaging Scam Targets Random Recipients

University Credit Union has been notified that a phishing scam involving text messaging is active in the Northeastern Pennsylvania area and this scam has occurred in other areas of the country as well. The text messages are sent out to random recipients. The text messages warn members that their accounts have been suspended and to call a phone number with a 720 area code or an 866 toll free number. There have been fraudulent withdrawals liked to this scam at different locations across the country.
The University Credit Union would never attempt to contact you regarding your account through text messaging. If you have been contacted by someone regarding your account, call UCU through our toll free number of 1-800-696-8628 to check the validity of the information.
