TJX Companies, Inc. Breach of Data

There has been a great deal of information recently about a breach of information involving the TJ Maxx chain of stores. We wanted to take this opportunity to let our members know that at UCU, our obligation to protect our members information is of the utmost importance to us.

University Credit Union has recently been advised that some of our member's Visa Check Cards have been impacted by the recent TJX Companies, Inc, data breach. The security breach has affected various divisions of the TJX Companies, Inc. including T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Marshalls, and A.J. Wright stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and Winners and HomeSense stores in Canada.

We have sent letters to inform our members if their Visa Check Card has been reported as being part of the compromised account numbers. To this end, we have heightened our fraud monitoring procedures and will be replacing member's current cards with new cards. This card replacement is a precautionary step to safeguard member's accounts.

Any member's who have been affected by this incident will be receiving new cards within 14 days of the letters being sent. On February 28th, all compromised cards will be blocked and no longer active for use. Please be aware that PINs will change on any new cards issued and will arrive in a separate mailing. Members can block their current cards prior to receiving their new ones by calling University Credit Union at 1-800-696-8628.

As always, members should know that with a UCU Visa Check Card you are protected from fraudulent charges on your account. We encourage all members to review their accounts regularly for any unauthorized charges and to notify UCU immediately if any are discovered.
